MUSIC IN THE CLASSROOM

On March 13th the children from 1st to 6th class travelled to the National Concert Hall for“Music in the Classroom”. This followed a 6 week entertaining and imaginative music
programme in school where children are introduced to the experience of orchestral music.

The children were treated to an exciting and enthusiastic performance by the RTE National Symphony Orchestra & Gearoid Grant. We sang along to well loved songs from Toy Story & the Muppets while also enjoying music from Strauss, Copland, Williams & Sullivan. Soloists Emmanuel Lawlor & Peter Sweeney had us laughing at their antics throughout ‘Appalachian Spring’. And we were treated to a fabulous performance by the Dex Mc Glouglin School of Ballet of Peter and the Wolf! It was a wonderful musical
experience for all.

Meanwhile back at school, the children in Junior and Senior Infants had great fun playing the drums and participating in a musical/rhythm appreciation class with parent John Swan. All the children made their own instruments and played along to some great music. Watch out music world – a number of drummers have been born!!
