APRIL NEWS & UPCOMING EVENTS

Tidy Schools Competition & National Spring Clean

This month we are taking part in the DLR Tidy Schools Competition and the national Spring Clean. Already the children and staff are making an extra effort to keep our school clean and tidy, with a special thank you to Betty for her beautiful window boxes to the front of the school. Despite our building work, we can still keep our school a beautiful, enjoyable place to learn & teach.

Cumann na mBunscol Hurling League

Congratulations to our wonderful hurling team who beat Our Lady’s BNS in their opening match of this year’s league. Our next match against Briotas, Rathcoole takes place away next Thursday at 3pm. This will be followed by their third match on Wednesday 29th against Scoil Aodáin at 1pm.in the Stars of Erin pitch. All supporters welcome! Many thanks to our coaches Peter Keane and Jason Sinclair.

Swimming

A new swimming term began Thursday 16th April in Meadowbrook pool for Junior Infants, 1st & 3rd classes. Pupils have the option to return by bus or to be collected by a parent. However we kindly request that parents choose an option and remain with that option for the term of swimming. We understand that in an emergency it may be necessary to change arrangements. But it is not acceptable to change arrangements weekly without informing the school or the child. Please choose an option and remain with that decision for the duration of the term. Should your child have a medical condition that prevents them from swimming, please write to the Board of Management requesting an exemption. Miriam O Flynn, Parents Rep for Junior Infants, will be happy to speak to any new parents regarding swimming.

NCC Choir Performance

The pupils of 4th, 5th & 6th class are eagerly making final preparations for their national performance in the National Basketball Arena on Tuesday 21st April. All parents attending are in for an amazing experience. We take this opportunity to thank Ruth and their class teachers for all their preparation throughout the year for this big event.

Staff

Welcome back to Nicola Mulvey our learning Support teacher who has been out on extended sick leave since Christmas.

We send good wishes to our Senior Infant teacher Diarmuid Coughlan who has unfortunately broke his arm and will be absent until late May. In the meantime we welcome Mr. David Kirwan who will teach this class in the interim.

We also welcome Mark Terry who has begun his Teaching Practice in Ms. O Brien’s Junior Infants and Ruth Mulcahy who will begin her Teaching Practice in May in 4th class.

Netball Blitz

5th & 6th class are delighted to take part in a Netball Blitz on Tuesday 28th in UCD. This is an all day event with a variety of schools around Dublin taking part. Thanks to our PA fundraising for covering the entry & coach costs.

Copper Trail

Our annual Copper Trail is taking place over the next four weeks where we encourage children to empty out those old coppers into the boxes in each classroom. The class who raises the most money will receive a whole class Homework Pass. Thank you to Gillian Hughes who is running this this year.

Bags to School Collection

All bags of donated clothing will be accepted on Thursday 23rd between 9.00-9.30 and 2-3pm in the Rachel Murphy Hall. Bags cannot be collected after this time as they will be collected by the company Bags 2 School on Thursday afternoon. Under no circumstances are bags to be left on school grounds at any time. Many thanks to Annamarie Fitzsimons for organising this.
