October News – In the classroom

Leinster House – By Amy Hill 6th class

On Wednesday the 28th of September 5th & 6th class took a visit to Leinster House. We were invited by TD Maria Bailey Ryan, who is also a parent in our school. Our tour guide, brought us through the building where we saw beautiful stained glass windows, portraits of previous Taoiseachs and stunning statues. We got to see inside the Dail chambers where all the meetings about our country take place. Then we had a special invitation to the Taoiseach’s office where we met Taoiseach Enda Kenny. He joked with us about Mayo winning the All-Ireland but we now know the Dubs are undefeated! Afterwards we had our photo taken with an Taoiseach. We had a great day with lots of fun and we learned a lot about our government.

Music in the Classroom  – By Lulu Fitzsimons 2nd class

On Monday 3rd of October, 2nd & 3rd class went to the National Concert Hall. The whole class came. We listened to the Birdie Song, Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen. I think everyone loved it. The orchestra was loud. There are a lot of instruments in the orchestra. The orchestra is so so big. I think it was the best school trip in the world.

Fighting Words

On Tuesday 18th October, 4th class visited the new Fighting Words Centre in Glencree. Here the children engaged in a creative writing workshop and co-created their own books. We have visited the centre in Dublin before but this was our first trip to the new Glencree centre which was fabulous. More information about the centres in Ireland can be found at http://www.fightingwords.ie/.
