Croke Park Final 2016: A Nail-biting Finish!

Huge congratulations to our Cumann na Bunscol team who reached the final of Corn an Coiglitis at Croke Park on Tuesday 8th November. The whole school packed into four coaches & a fleet of cars and headed off to our iconic stadium for an amazing day of football. With the rain descending upon us, our valiant team took to the pitch against Donabate/ Portane educate Together. Despite a few quick goals from the opposition, our lads & lassies came fighting back. Despite there being an 8 point difference to the opposition at one point in the match, St. Patrick’s NS came back to lead by just one point with one minute to spare. But the win wasn’t to be. After a nail biting 50 minutes, both teams drew with a score of 4-11 to 6-5. Both teams were awarded gold medals and will share the Cup for the year. We are so proud of all 24 members of our team who showed outstanding resilience in dreadful weather conditions and never gave up until the final whistle blew. Best wishes were emailed from Dublin players Stephen Cluxton & Denis Bastick who know that some day, some of these players could  be taking over their boots. We look forward to celebrating our team’s success on November 30th when the Sam Maguire cup comes to visit St. Patrick’s NS.

Sincere thanks to parents Peter Keane and Jason Sinclair and teacher Mr. Coughlan for coaching the team and bringing them all the way to the final. Thank you to all staff for accompanying the teams on their matches. Thanks to all our volunteers and our supporters at Croke Park who cheered us on. Together we have created wonderful memories for our pupils.
We look forward to the Hurling League in the New Year!
