September 2017 – What’s been happening…

Welcome Junior Infants

A very warm welcome to our 23 adorable Junior Infants and their families for 2017! These wonderful children marched in on their first day full of smiles, joy and laughter, with only a few small tears, mainly from mums and dads, as their treasures began ‘big school’. We look forward to making many happy memories with our newest members of our Glencullen family.

St. Patrick’s NS Gets it’s First Lollipop Man!

After many years of our parents campaigning for our pupils safety, we are delighted to welcome Mick Gregory as our new Lollipop Man. Mick is on a one year pilot programme with DLRD CoCo, guiding our young students and their families safely across the road from the Johnny Foxes overflow Carpark to the school gates. This has become a dangerous crossing over the years with speeding cars taking short cuts over the mountains and poor visibility. But our Lollipop Man is now present both at the start and close of school to keep everyone safe. A sincere thanks to many people for making this happen beginning foremost with our PA committee this year and in previous years who continually campaign for carpark & road safety. Thank you to Counsellor Lynsey Mc Govern, Councillor Kevin Daly, Garda Pat Cullen and our very own parent & TD Maria Bailey Ryan. We hope to see our Lollipop Man kept on for many years of safe crossing!

St. Patrick’s NS Facebook re-launched

We are delighted to share our new Facebook page with our school community and friends far and wide. If you would like to see what’s going on in our school community just like our page ‘St. Patrick’s NS Glencullen’. And while social media is an excellent means of sharing and communicating information, we will strive to always remain vigilant of our duty of care to our students’ privacy and dignity. Children will not be identifiable from photos and defamatory remarks of pupils, staff or parents will not be tolerated under any circumstance. Instead enjoy learning about what’s happening in specific classes as well as events, awards, news and achievements.

Our Facebook page will continue to complement our Twitter page @Glencullen_NS and our website www.glecnullenschool.ie.

New School Year Mass

On Monday 18th September we will celebrate our New School year mass in St. Patrick’s Church with Fr. Andrew. All parents and members of the community are welcome to join us for this lovely ceremony which marks the beginning of what will hopefully be another fantastic year in Glencullen.

Cumann na mBunscol Senior Football League 2017

The very best of luck to this year’s team taking part in the Cumann na mBunscol football league. Our first match begins next Wednesday against Holy Trinity NS. Hopefully we can replicate last year’s success of a Croke Park final. But whatever happens, there will be a lot of fun along the way. Thank you as always to parents & Stars of Erin coach Peter Keane, our GAA coach Sean Kelly, class teacher and GAA player Diarmuid Coughlan and all the teachers who will give up their free time to supervise matches. Go néirí an tadh libh!!
